Footy Finals

What a huge match it was this weekend! All players gave it their all, and it was spectacular to watch. As soon as the players stepped with their four furry feet onto the sold out Royal Canin Stadium, it was clear this day would be one to remember.

Even before the game started there was a bit of rough-housing around from Angus the black Labrador which really got everyone fired up.

After a great first quarter and a few goals under their belt Jip, Nam Nam, Sa Sa and Wilbur were subbed off and spectated from the bench.

On-baller toy poodle Frankie wasn't afraid to go in hard for the ball, he never got intimidated and even gave the bigger players a run for their money. (See photo).

The intensity of the game was nothing like I had ever seen before; everyone was giving it their all. Jack-Russells’ Poppy and Maggie did a great job in the centre and got the clearances when they needed them most. Milly the Labrador and Daisy the Rhodesian Ridgeback mix, gave a few hard knocks to their opponents, but no injuries where reported for the day.

It was neck and neck all game until in the final minutes. It took a spectacular specky from Andrea over the top of Alfie the Dachshund to get the final and winning goal!

There is no questions about the player of the day, Vegas rose to every occasion and seized every opportunity to win. He took on all the other players no matter how big, or small, and he was undisputedly the Most Valuable Player of the game.

Don’t think that just because there was so much action in the Royal Canin Stadium that the MCG (Melbourne Cat Ground) wasn't erupting in excitement. The fur was certainly flying between the cats! Every cat really shone this weekend, but it was clear that the star of the day in the MCG was defiantly Aslan, playing in of course his Geelong ‘kitty cats’ jumper.

There was only one report for the day; Alfie the Dachshund Mix for sledging. The charge was dropped after it was discovered that Jack the Whippet really was a "son-of-a-bitch".

Senior Pet Care

Just as humans require more attention as they age, so do our loving pets. Think about all the love and happiness your pets have given you over the years, what better way to repay their devotion than to provide them with a better quality of life in their golden years.

Here are some tips to help you make your pet as comfortable as possible:

  • Take your pets to the vet for regular check-ups. This can often detect diseases at an early stage.
  • Look, listen and feel for any bumps, pains or changes in behaviour. Things to look out for include suddenly snappy, weight changes and increased thirst.
  • Give your pet the very best diet. Senior diets are available and provide enhanced levels of nutrients and fatty acids required by older pets.
  • Make sure that your pets’ teeth and gums are in good condition.
  • Keep up some moderate exercise and play with your older pets
  • Massage your pet regularly it will help with arthritis, circulation, and they will love you for it.
  • And last but defiantly not least, give your older pets lots of love and affection.

Hopefully these tips can help in giving your pets a better quality of life in their later years

Pet Of The Month

Millie Lord

Labrador

7 Years Old

Meet Millie! She loves playing tug of war with ropes and loves chasing balls. Her favourite place to be is in bed and she will eat anything, but especially loves chicken!

Her best friend is her dad Geoff and she recently lost her partner in crime Amy. Amy was also a client of The Pets Hotel and lived to the ripe old age of 12, when unfortunately she passed away after a long battle with illness. We miss Amy almost as much as Millie and her family.

Geoff’s favourite memory of Millie is when she was 8 weeks old and they discovered her in the garden after she had just destroyed it!! There is a photo to commemorate this naughty behaviour! But the things that Millie has been in trouble for are eating shoes and furniture, but also chewing a beautiful new magnolia tree after her parents had just spent heaps of money getting the garden landscaped!! No matter how naughty you are or have been, we adore you to bits Millie!!!

I was told that the training process with cats was a difficult one. But it’s not. Mine had me trained in two days.
